A safe and healthy future for youngsters
Unsafe sex: biggest health risk
HIV, early pregnancy and sexual violence are the biggest and fastest growing health risks for teenagers worldwide. Did you know, for example, that …
– 1 in 5 girls is the victim of sexual harassment or rape?
– pregnancy is the # 1 cause of death for girls between 15 and 19 years old?
– every 15 seconds, someone gets infected with HIV?

What is the Dance4Life training program?
Because you'd rather talk to peers about sex during adolescence than with adults, Dance4Life trains young people to spread the Dance4Life program - the Journey4Life - worldwide. Our innovative approach to comprehensive sexuality education empowers young boys and girls to take personal leadership over their sexual lives. It's a learning experience full of music, dance and personal stories. The Journey4Life takes youngsters on a journey of self-discovery, transforming them into confident individuals with gender egalitarian attitudes, and the ability to critically question and challenge existing social norms.
What is your impact?
The Dance4Life program has a huge impact on young people's future For example, the project evaluation in Tanzania showed that in three years time there were 75% fewer school drop-outs due to teenage pregnancies among young people who followed the curriculum. In Nepal, the number of young people who feel in charge of their sex life and relationships doubled. In addition to project evaluations, Dance4Life recently employed an AIO researcher. She evaluates the long-term impact of the Journey4Life. The first pilot studies are promising. Since 2004 we have already reached more than 2 million young people. We aim to reach another 5 million youngsters in the coming years.
What makes Dance4Life different?
Dance4Life takes a different approach than many other charities. Instead of money, we offer an innovative and effective teaching program. We do not have our own country offices, but work as a social franchise with local partners who become co-owners of the curriculum. Think of a local health organization with good clinics, which are not visited by young people. Or an educational organization that is well equipped, but finds that girls drop out of school because of early pregnancies. Dance4Life's curriculum is the solution for these organizations. Partner organizations work together to make the teaching program even more effective. This way we efficiently work together to reach more young people every year.
What will happen with my donation?
Dance4Life trains young trainers around the world to reach as many young people as possible. These Trainers4Life work with our local partners who have been working with young people for years and know the region well. Your contribution supports their training, helps improve the curriculum, allows for learning & exchange, contributes to research into the impact of our work and a bit of fundraising and communication, including our schools program in the Netherlands. A gift of € 25, - allows one youngster to take part in the Dance4Life program.
